Automatic and Inspired Writing
Automatic Writing
In automatic writing, the medium’s hand is taken over by someone in spirit who writes using the hand. A woman who experienced automatic writing named Margaret Cameron described the feeling of her hand being taken over as like holding a live bird wrapped in a handkerchief. “Automatic writing” is often used to refer to what is inspired writing, described below.
The most complete description of automatic writing is Mike Tymn’s “Automatic Writing” on his blog: http://whitecrowbooks.com/michaeltymn/feature/automatic_writing_by_michael_e._tymn
Inspired Writing
In inspiriting, the writer relaxes and writes the first words that come to them, scribbling them without regard to penmanship or legibility. The writer carries on a dialogue, writing the words as they come from both the writer and the person in spirit. The person in spirit is not controlling the writer’s hand.
